The Four Questions
Ask yourself these questions about any stressful thought
Is it true?
Be still and ask yourself if the thought you're believing is actually true. This is a yes or no question.
Can you absolutely know that it's true?
Look deeper. Can you absolutely know, with 100% certainty, that this thought is true?
How do you react, what happens, when you believe that thought?
Notice what happens in your body, your emotions, and your actions when you believe this thought.
Who would you be without the thought?
Imagine yourself in the same situation, but without the ability to believe this thought. What do you see?
The Turnaround
After answering the four questions, you turn the thought around to find alternative perspectives. The turnarounds are an opportunity to experience the opposite of what you believe.
To the Self
Turn the statement around to yourself. What you thought about others may apply to you as well.
To the Other
Turn the statement around to the other person. Consider their perspective and experience.
To the Opposite
Turn the statement to its complete opposite. Find examples of how this could be equally true.
